Studio Design 2.5

The Studio Design 2.5 stands as a single release in our record, arriving in 2002. There is no earlier or later chapter to trace here, no line of successive years to follow forward. What we hold is one putter, one date, one finish.

According to greenskeeper.org, the 2.5 has a history on Tour that predates its retail arrival, first appearing in 2002 under the name JAT 2 Mid Bend. The publication describes the head as a convertible mallet design, with a rounded, slight radiused back flange and a T sightline running the length of the topline and down the middle of the flange, calling it convertible because it has the characteristics of a mallet design except with a more concave flange. That same source puts the face as milled from soft carbon steel.

The maker's page lists the finish as Black Pearl, describing it in terms echoed by greenskeeper.org's own description of the finish. Reviewers who spoke to the putter's finish were in agreement on its character: one Community note praised it for low maintenance, great sound and feel, and rust resistance, while scottycameron.com's own account calls it a finish with a dark smoke color and iridescent look, has great sound and feel as well as being rust resistant. On this point, at least, the maker's language and the Community's impression line up closely.

Beyond the finish, the 2.5 carries its own custom specifications on record, including a custom loft tolerance of +/- 2° and a left-hand custom length option of 35 inches. Whatever else came before or after the JAT 2 Mid Bend in Cameron's Studio Design work is not part of this entry.
