Studio Design 2.5

The Studio Design 2.5 shipped in 2002 as part of Scotty Cameron's Studio Design line, finished in Black Pearl. The maker's page describes it as a rounded flanged blade with a pocket, carrying a high toe and a rolled topline, milled from soft carbon steel. Stock specs list a 35 inch length, 4° of loft with a custom loft window of +/- 2°, and 71° of lie, with custom left-hand lengths available at 35 inches.

Greenskeeper.org's account fills in more of the head's background, describing it as a convertible mallet design with a rounded, slight radiused back flange and a T sightline running the length of the topline and down the middle of the flange, convertible in the sense that it borrows mallet characteristics but with a more concave flange. That same source ties the head to an earlier Tour life, reporting that it was first introduced on Tour in 2002 as the JAT 2 Mid Bend, with a neck described as a Mid-Bend shaft going directly into the head and roughly 1/4 toe hang, similar to a Newport or Newport 2. Greenskeeper also puts the first run at 500 pieces, a production detail scottycameron.com does not carry.

On finish, scottycameron.com and reviewer opinion line up: the Black Pearl finish is described on the maker's own page as a dark smoke color and iridescent look, rust resistant, and reviewers echoed that read, with one calling out the low maintenance finish and praising its sound, feel, and rust resistance in the same terms the maker used. Against the rest of the Studio Design line, the 2.5 reads as the rounded, high toe pocket-back counterpart to whatever more traditional blade shapes the numbering implies elsewhere in the series, distinguished here by its flange geometry and its Tour-bend neck lineage as reported by Greenskeeper.
