The look carries through in orange: an orange Studio Design grip, an orange shaftband, a new orange headcover, and an extended orange sightline that runs straight for the first inch before curving.

The design theory on record is that this configuration promotes the arc-shaped putting path, and the maker's page attributes a removable stainless steel backweight to the head, allowing a single head to work across varying shaft lengths, along with a weighting scheme said to triangulate balance for high MOI and an increased sweet spot. PRLog's write-up frames the shape differently in places, describing a 303 stainless steel body with a back-weight, a T-6 6061 aircraft aluminum face, and a heel-shafted, toe-hang blade design, and traces the Detour's sight curve to a miniature version bolted onto the back of two Newport putters, a detail attributed to that outlet rather than confirmed by Cameron's own copy.

Community and outlet opinion on this release runs positive without much friction. One commentator called it great for any skill level and credited the back-weight with adding stability, while PRLog's own review put it plainly: "he Titleist Newport 2 Detour putter is a great club for any golfer to have whether they are a pro or just starting out." Set against the standard Newport 2 line, where later Select-era models settled into a fixed 3.5° loft, 70° lie, and stainless-only or stainless/aluminum inlay construction, the 2007 Detour version reads as a one-off variant, built around the arched Detour face rather than the flatter, more traditional Newport 2 profile that came to define the rest of the line.
