Dual Force 2

The Dual Force 2 is a reissue. The maker's page lists it as a reissue of the original Odyssey Dual Force putter line, brought back with a darker finish meant to cut down on glare and unwanted reflection, and an insert reworked to hold the same feel while performing more consistently on off-center strikes.

Greenskeeper.org's reporting fills in more of the shape of the line. By that account the Dual Force 2 came in several head styles, from heel-toe blades with full-shaft offset to scoop-back blades in both half-offset and non-offset center-shaft form, a rounded heel-toe blade, a face-balanced mallet with a double-bend shaft, and a mallet on a non-offset center shaft. That's a wide spread of geometry to carry under one name, and it suggests the Dual Force 2 was less a single putter than a platform offered across several head profiles. The same outlet describes a co-molded ground face, formed in the face cavity and ground flush for the impact surface, finished with a shot-peened surface, and built around a Stronomic insert. Greenskeeper.org also credits the insert technology with raising MOI, by swapping stainless steel out of the face for a lighter material repositioned to the perimeter, and describes the feel off that insert as firm but more resilient than the original, with sound and feedback the outlet called pleasing.

Where the maker's own language and greenskeeper.org's differ, in the insert's construction and in what exactly it does for feel, both are held here as reported rather than settled. Set against the original Dual Force, this release reads as a return more than a departure, a line brought back with a quieter finish and a face and insert tuned toward forgiveness rather than a reinvention of what the first Dual Force putters were.
