Bells, DMs, and what needs a sign-in.
Notifications
The bell lists replies, mentions, follows, helpful votes, and other house events. Open an item to jump to it; read state updates so the badge stays honest.
Direct messages
When DMs are enabled, open Messages from the nav (desktop sidebar or phone navigation). A first message to someone you have not talked with arrives as a request: replying accepts it, declining is silent (the sender is not told). Marketplace contact threads, when the market is open to you, use the same messaging spine with listing context.
Limits
New accounts and high-volume messaging hit rate limits on purpose. Links from brand-new accounts may be restricted. That protects the Community from spam.
Safety
Do not share payment handles or off-platform contacts under pressure mid-deal. Report switch-pressure and scams via the report flow.
