The maker's own page on the Newport variant recalls that even before it was hoisted to victory at the '97 Masters, Scotty's Newport design infused with a unique copper alloy inlay he coined Teryllium was gaining attention in the growing Cameron brand universe, and that its silky soft feel made those putters a must-have among serious players. The T22 line, arriving fast forward with the benefit of more than two decades of research and development, was Cameron's way of bringing that feel back into circulation rather than leaving it archived.

Within the 2019 release, the T22 spread across multiple shapes built on the same idea. The Fastback 1.5 version was, per the maker, never before crafted with the soft feel of Teryllium, aimed at players who wanted a mid-mallet's stability with a blade's toe flow. The Newport and Newport 2 versions leaned harder into nostalgia, keeping the familiar Teryllium feel while dressing the heads in a tactical matte black finish over 303 stainless steel, with a flatter topline and customizable sole weights updating the classic silhouette for tour-level play. Across all three, the pitch was consistent: honor the insert and the history, modernize everything around it.
