The 2014 Select Squareback carries the family's signature square flange forward into a mixed-material build, pairing aluminum and steel for what the maker's page calls the perfect balance and feel, noting the head comes in light and heavy versions. That mixed-material approach sets this release apart from the earlier all-303-stainless-steel Squareback 1 builds on record from 2008 and 2010, which were milled from a single precision milled 303 stainless steel block.

On record, the 2014 head carries a deep milled face, a bold crisscross sight line, and a thicker topline, along with a new pop-up sole plate. The crisscross sight line is a departure from the milled sight line in the flange described on the earlier Squareback 1 pages, and the pop-up sole plate is a feature specific to this release with no equivalent noted in the 2008 or 2010 material.

Within the Squareback line, this entry sits as a materials and detailing update rather than a wholesale redesign. The square flange that gives the model its name carries through, but the 2014 Select version distinguishes itself with construction and face-milling choices that the earlier Studio Select pages don't describe.
