Phantom X 9.5 Triple Black

The Phantom X 9.5 Triple Black exists on our record as a single release, announced by Titleist's media center on Aug. 24, 2021 as a limited run. There's no earlier or later version to trace an arc against, so the line's story is really the story of this one head: a high-MOI mallet built around Scotty Cameron's Phantom X shape, finished entirely in black and dressed out with a Tour Black shaft, matching headcover, and shaft band.

The maker's page describes a body of solid milled 303 stainless steel integrated with a 6061 aluminum component, with the face carried through in the same mid-milled stainless steel construction. Shopclublink.ca corroborates much of this construction language independently, describing the same fused stainless-and-aluminum build, though it's worth noting that's a retailer's account rather than the maker's own. Cosmetically, the maker's page points to custom engraving inspired by vintage muscle car pinstripes, with three red dots on the topline marking the sweet spot, a detail thehackersparadise.com also picked up, describing three red dots along the top flange as the alignment aid on a putter built for mallet stability with blade feel.

Reception on the one release we hold is thin but pointed. Thehackersparadise.com's writeup was blunt in its dissatisfaction, and the release carries an overall negative mark in the opinion attached to it. There's no dissenting community voice in what we hold to weigh against that, so the negative read stands alone here rather than as one side of a debate.
