Select Newport Mallet 1

The 2016 Select Newport Mallet 1 is the mid-mallet entry in that year's Select line, built around 303 stainless steel with 6061 aircraft aluminum wrap-around face-sole technology. Scotty Cameron's own page frames it in personal terms: "As a lifelong car guy, Scotty has a soft spot for the soft curves of classic roadsters. The Newport Mallet 1 is a rounded, flowing mid-mallet with 6061 aircraft aluminum wrap-around face-sole technology, sweeping single-bend shaft, and pop-through flange alignment system." That's the design thesis for the head shape, curved rather than angular, with the pop-through flange doing the alignment work.

On spec, it ships at 3.5º loft and 70º lie, in 33", 34", and 35" lengths, with a Matador Midsize 11" grip and full shaft offset. Weighting scales down as length goes up: 2x20 grams at 33", 2x15 grams at 34", 2x10 grams at 35". Custom shop options widen the window further, with loft adjustable -1º to +1º, lie -2º to +2º, and half-inch length increments available on the right-hand build.

Set against the rest of the 2016 Select family, the Mallet 1 is the line's clearest departure from the traditional blade silhouette, leaning on the aluminum face-sole construction and perimeter weighting to push mass to the edges. The maker's page ties that back to feel and stability rather than pure looks: "Sound, feel and balance are optimized by moving the heavier stainless steel to the perimeter and incorporating the lighter aluminum components to maximize MOI (moment of inertia), stability and, ultimately, confidence."
