Super Select Newport 2.5 Plus

The Super Select Newport 2.5 Plus is the enlarged edition of Cameron's Newport 2.5, built around what the maker's page describes as an MOI-enhancing 'Plus' design, with weight distributed in the perimeter for higher moment of inertia. It carries a multi-material construction combining complementary materials, and the maker's page lists a 303 stainless steel head paired with a 6061 aircraft grade aluminum sole plate. Stock specs run 3.5 degrees of loft and 70 degrees of lie, with a mid-high toe hang and 3/4 shaft offset, in 33", 34", and 35" lengths fitted with a Pistolini Plus grip.

Golf Monthly, in naming it to its 2023 Editor's Choice awards, placed the 2.5 Plus between the classic Newport and Newport 2 and the larger Squareback 2, calling it one of three plus shapes that are simply larger versions of their namesake heads. The publication described it as very long from heel to toe and noticeably wider than the other Newport models, with plenty of toe hang and a feel it called a lot more stable from long range versus the standard Newport models. Golf Monthly also pointed to design details it attributed to the maker's build, including I beams in the hosel and back pocket and deeper "bombs" behind the face, along with lighter aluminum sole plates said to save 10 grams and a pair of 20 gram tungsten weights in the heel and toe.

On feel and sound, Golf Monthly's review noted the face is not as soft as a plastic insert, with gentle acoustics on short putts that grow louder with more feedback on longer ones, and found it didn't sound as loud, firm, or clicky as the previous Special Select line. The outlet also flagged a new milling technique, describing a second pass to remove high spots and additional milling lines set between the main circular pattern, said to make the face flatter and more consistent, alongside a lack of paint fill on the back of the head. Golf Monthly listed an MSRP of £429 for the release. The maker's page lists Custom Shop personalization options covering grip, headcover, stamp, paintfill, shaft band, and sight line, along with left-hand lengths of 33", 34", and 35", custom loft adjustment of -1º to +1º, and custom lie adjustment of -2º to +2º.
