Select Fastback 2

The Select Fastback 2 arrived in golf shops worldwide beginning Feb. 15, 2019, as one of two new mid-mallets added to Scotty Cameron's flagship Select line that year, alongside the Select Squareback 1.5. The maker's announcement is direct about where the design came from: following the 2018 Select Fastback, "players immediately asked Scotty for one option – a plumbing neck." That neck change is the whole story of this release. The Fastback 2 keeps the rounded mid-mallet shape of its predecessor but swaps in the plumbing neck configuration, which the maker's page describes as providing one shaft of offset in "the familiar, confidence-inspiring setup." Alongside the neck, the maker notes "subtle refinements" to the topline for a slightly thinner look and a reduction of face height.

On spec, the Select Fastback 2 shipped with a 3.5 degree loft and 70 degree lie, available in 33, 34, and 35 inch lengths, with custom loft adjustable -1 to +1 degree and custom lie adjustable -2 to +2 degrees, plus half-inch custom length options. The head is built from 303 stainless steel with 6061 aircraft aluminum face sole technology, per the maker's page, and comes fitted with a Matador Midsize 11" grip. Weighting runs 2x20 grams in the 33" build, 2x15 grams at 34", and 2x10 grams at 35", full shaft offset throughout.

Within its own line, the Select Fastback 2 sits as a variant rather than a redesign, the head shape carried over from the 2018 Fastback with the neck and topline changes as its distinguishing features. Cameron would return to this formula later: a 2026 announcement describes a separate Studio Style Fastback 2, built on the Studio Style mid-mallet profile with its own plumbing neck configuration, distinct from this 2019 Select release.
