Catalina Original

The Catalina Original carries a Gun Blue finish over carbon steel, according to the maker's page. That finish sits it within the broader tradition of Cameron's blued steel work, giving the head a dark, worked patina rather than a bright polished look.

The maker's own page on the Classic X to Catalina rolling changes describes a loft increase from the traditional 3 degrees to 4 degrees, framed as a way to get the ball rolling truer and on a straighter line. That page also documents a proprietary Micro Step shaft designed by Scotty exclusively for Titleist to maximize sound, feel, and flex, along with a triangle shaft band in gold, black, and white, a headcover with Titleist lettering, an American flag, and gold-bordered Cameron script, and a pistol paddle wrap grip made by Royal with Cameron and Titleist markings.

The Catalina name would return later as a separate limited piece, the 2007 Catalina Classic headcover, which the maker's archive describes as limited to 2007 pieces worldwide and finished with a soft leather stitched grip and gold and off-white paintfill, evoking yachtsmen piloting wooden ships into Catalina Island's Avalon Harbor. That later piece is its own release and its own record, but it shows the Catalina name carrying forward as something the maker returned to more than once.
