Versa 330 Mallet

The Versa 330 Mallet shipped in 2014 as part of Odyssey's Versa line, and the maker's own description is straightforward about what it is: "a mid sized mallet with a crank-neck hosel and full-shaft offset." That's the whole shape of the thing in one sentence, and it's worth taking at face value since Odyssey isn't dressing it up beyond that.

What sets the Versa treatment apart from a standard mallet release is the alignment work laid over the head. Odyssey's page describes it as "high contrast alignment technology" meant to highlight "the proper face angle from address to impact," with the black and white contrast intended to let your eyes "key in on the linear designs and highlights the face angle all the way through impact." Whatever you make of that pitch, it's the defining feature of the Versa name across the line, not something unique to the 330 Mallet, and this head is one of the shapes it was built onto.

Inside the face, the maker's page lists a "new and improved White Hot insert" for the 2014 build, carried over from Odyssey's established insert family rather than introduced fresh here. Standard specs on record for this release: 3 degree loft, 33, 34, or 35 inch lengths, full shaft offset, 70 degree lie angle, right hand availability. Odyssey also released a black finish version and a white version paired with a SuperStroke Flatso grip, so the 330 Mallet head shape saw more than one cosmetic and grip treatment within the same Versa cycle.
