The MEZZ line arrived in 2022 as L.A.B. Golf's attempt to bring Lie Angle Balance technology into a shape that didn't scream spaceship. Four releases carry the name: the original MEZZ.1, the larger Mezz.1 MAX, a standard MEZZ, and a MEZZ XL. The maker's own page describes the underlying tech plainly: "Our putters employ Lie Angle Balance (L.A.B.) which is a patented technology we developed that simplifies putting. It eliminates torque and produces a repeatable swing." That same language appears across the MEZZ, MEZZ.1 MAX, and mezz-putters collection pages, suggesting the line was built around one core idea scaled into different head sizes rather than a series of redesigns.

The MEZZ.1 MAX distinguished itself from the MEZZ.1 mainly through size and construction. L.A.B.'s own product page put it directly: "MEZZ.1 and MEZZ.1 MAX are pretty much the same putter… except MEZZ.1 MAX is 20% larger." The maker described the MAX's build as its most advanced to date, with a midsection CNC machined from 303 stainless "to improve feel" wrapped in a 6061 aircraft aluminum body "to improve forgiveness," and characterized the result as giving golfers "the feedback of steel" without "the penalty when it comes to forgiveness on off-center hits." Reviewers picked up on that same tension. Carlsgolfland.com echoed the maker's framing almost exactly, writing that buyers would "get the feedback of steel, but won't be penalized in terms of forgiveness on off-center hits." Golflink.com, comparing the MAX to the standard Mezz, wrote that it "delivers more forgiveness and stability than the OG Mezz," while golfmagic.com's take on the standard MEZZ leaned the same direction, recommending the MAX over it because "with a bigger head comes more forgiveness and more confidence in your putting."

Not every reviewer landed in the same place on the smaller head. Customclubs.eu framed the MEZZ.1 as the pick for a player who wants feedback over raw forgiveness, noting it's "a lot smaller than DF 2.1 and about 20% smaller than MEZZ.1 MAX," while pluggedingolf.com called the MEZZ.1 "unequivocally L.A.B. golf's best-looking putter" and "arguably the best feeling putter they've produced too." A recurring complaint ran through both the MEZZ.1 and the MAX alike: pluggedingolf.com noted the lack of a golf-ball retrieval feature was "a big critique of many fans" of both models, a gripe that shows up in community sentiment as well.

The MEZZ XL extends the line's sizing logic further, with pluggedingolf.com describing it as carrying a "bigger footprint" than its siblings. Across the four releases, the throughline is consistent: one L.A.B. Golf shape, offered in escalating sizes, with reviewers largely in agreement that bigger meant steadier and smaller meant livelier feedback, even as the ball-pickup complaint followed the line from one head to the next.
