Frontline 4.0

The Frontline 4.0 sits within Cleveland Golf's Frontline line, and most of what we hold on it comes from golfalot.com's reporting rather than Cleveland's own materials. Golfalot credits the design to Jacob Lambeth, a Research and Development Engineer at Cleveland Golf, and describes a head that is predominantly black with small splashes of red and white, paired with a black shaft and a slightly thicker Lamkin grip. The publication also reports two Metal Injected Molded tungsten weights built into the face as part of what it calls Tungsten Forward Weighting, alongside Cleveland's Speed Optimised Face Technology. Buyers could choose between a single bend neck for straight back-and-through strokes or a slant neck suited to an arc stroke, according to that same reporting.

On feel and performance, the Community's read on the 4.0 is split. One set of impressions praised its mid-range performance, called it easy to align, and liked the grip, while flagging that the material looked and felt a little cheap, that it was slightly loud off the strike, and that the head weight wasn't quite right. Golfalot's own verdict landed more lukewarm: It's not for me, but the price-point will appeal to a certain target market and if it's a look and feel that they like then it may be well worth the cash. Taken together, the record shows a putter built around visible tungsten weighting and face technology, judged serviceable more than exceptional by the outlets that spent time with it.
