Per the maker, Sam Bettinardi designed the BB48 in response to "feedback from Tour players seeking a mallet-style putter with a more subtle profile." The page describes "sweeping shoulders that dip across the back flange and wane and vanish at the rear," landing on what it calls "a mallet with a modest appearance that inspires confidence at address." That's the shape argument for the BB48 within the BB Series: less mallet than the name might suggest, built for a moderate arc stroke rather than a straight-back-straight-through motion.

The milling carries the line's Perpetual Flymill face treatment, which the maker's page ties to "sonic precision" and describes as producing "a distinctive tone" off the face on each strike. Bettinardi has since put the BB48 head into limited runs outside the standard release, including NFL Draft Day editions and a Violet Haze PVD Studio B Reserve version, both milled from 303SS with the same Flymill facemilling.
