Bee Stings????????
« on: February 29, 2008, 08:49:14 pm »
I'll post better pictures tomorrow of this beauty and another, but I thought I would share a new Bettinardi.

I like to refer to this putter's unique stampings. They are "bee stings," not s#*w. I love the new ionic grips.

By the way, the bee stings were done by the studio and not aftermarket.

I love when the dealer, sorry distributor, delivers on Friday. Thanks for the fix Venno!!

I'll try and answer what I can. My "dealer" seems to be m.i.a.

As I am part of the "public," they are offered to the public. My understanding is that this is only the second putter that has been made with the "bee stings" and I am being told that they will only be producing a few each year (although that could be a dealer line)

I have not seen the grips on the dealer's site, so I don't think we can get them yet.

I believe that PGA stands for Professional Golf Association

I'll have to confirm the finish, but I don't think it is oil can.

I'm sure your finish is the proprietary antique copper finish. The bee stings are super rare. That is not a line.  Hope that helped.

I know what it stands for, why was it engraved on that particular putter?  ???

Chris,

I'm not sure I'll find out tomorrow.

On a side note, I made a comment about "dealer lines" earlier in this topic that I would like to clear up, just in case anyone new to the Bettinardi community (or PT) happened to read it and thought I was serious.

I was just kidding. I have never once felt that I was being given a "line" from any of the Bettinardi distributors.  I don't want anyone to think that Nick, Jimmy or Todd are not 100% professional and honest.

Sorry, not a fan. Too similar. If I saw this putter 5 feet away I would still think snow. I would still think TP Mills.

I think the lack of many different stamps is actually a strong RJB attribute. Just the bee itself coming back would be great. Too many stamps just is too faddish for me. Just MHO.

Just a little quick history lesson. Snow, is random markings placed on the putter, Bee stings are spaced evenly in as best we can a pattern. So it actually is different from "snow" but it does resemble it yes. Also the PGA is because it was an older tour prototype head from the Run of PGA Championship putters Bob made years back, its not an engraving option you'll see from time to time or anything like that.

That's what i love about the bettinardi bee stings... they are organized markings... i do like "snow" on a putter; however, if it's too random and all over the place i might (while standing over a three footer) say to myself, "Hmmm... self, why are those stamps so crowded?" don't laugh, i've actually done that before... had that on another putter and ditched it because my mind would wander... i'm border line ocd about things.

Venno,

Yes I did notice they are organized. It was just MHO.

Just like one would never confuse the Slighter spider-web against the Dreamweaver or Slighter's latest interpretation of the SC Crown. Not really close but enough make one think.

The best thing is to hear that it will not be appearing a lot on anything soon.

Nick, the "snow" that Cameron and Mills have been doing for years is also very thoughtfully placed.  In fact I've seen Mills use that exact placement many times. I hope you are not thinking Bettinardi is being a stand out here?  The term "bee sting" is certainly unique but the placing of those hand stamps is far from original.

Just a little quick history lesson. Snow, is random markings placed on the putter, Bee stings are spaced evenly in as best we can a pattern. I thought it would make sense to have the "bee stings" in black instead of white because the stingers are black and it wouldn't look like snow.

black stings would be cool unless it's on a black putter; however, you could easily change them to whatever color you want...
