1920’s McGregor 10 Putter w/ swastikas stamped on back
« on: June 18, 2018, 02:30:37 PM »
Found this old putter at a golf club repair shop that’s been in business for 50+ years.  Owner had it for sale in his odds and ends shelf.  Looked beautiful then we noticed the stampings.  Owner arid it was from 1920 era before the Nazi party adopted and destroyed this ancient symbol of many things.  In this case he thinks it was for good luck.  I bought it as a historical piece to demonstrate how quickly historical context can change.  I’ll post pics if anyone wants to see it.

I am keen to see the pics Bullseye,

I have always been fascinated with the thirteen years of that Reich,

Never expected to see a putter from then though. Cheers.

Here’s another.  The symbols are pre WW2 and used to be a sign of many things for centuries.  In this case the putter guy thought they were for good luck.  Had nothing to do with the third reich.

The symbol is backwards so definitely not third reich. That is probably manji, buddhist symbol, means "strength", "compassion", etc. But you can be 100% certain that club had nothing to do with nazis, they would never have stamped their symbol backwards.  Another mystery solved.   8)

And Gimmie, great knowledge dredging there, all we need now is a pic of the Tray itself!!

Also, if you haven't heard Jimi play Van Morrison's classic "Gloria", please do so!

It was a one take job, brilliant!! And Yes, we lost him as well, way too early, like the others in the 27 club!!
