Ping Scottsdale Anser with Tungsten Weights
« on: January 07, 2018, 11:09:00 PM »
G'day,

I hadn't added a Ping putter to my modest collection for a good couple of years,

I stumbled across this, being something different,

I don't know much about it, so ANY info that any of you guys out there could share would be great,

I have a Manganese/Bronze standard version also, which is the same head material as this one,

Both putters are 34" in length, the same stepless shaft, and the same PP58 grip,

Weighing them on my digital kitchen scales, the putter with the tungsten weights is 50 grams heavier,

So I am thinking that the weights are at least 25 grams in weight each, but that of course is not taking into account the missing amounts of manganese bronze, so maybe the tungsten weights could be up to 35 or 40 grams each,

As I said, I don't really know much about it, Living in Australia isn't the same as living near Phoenix to get all the good info from the Ping workshop,

The slightest amount of knowledge that my fellow PT'ers can pass on about this Anser, would be greatly appreciated

Cheers and thank you, Steve, here are a couple of pics (with one blurry one).

Looks like the work of Jim Wells who I think has now retired. Only thing is that all his custom work for Ping staffers usually carries an engraved JW code followed by some numbers. (which I cant see)

I have 3 of his putters. (which I am thinking of selling)  ;)

Scott.

Just chucking out a guess here, but it kinda looks like it is a custom jobbie from Morton Golf Sales.
They have (or had) a custom setup for Ping that gives you inserts, sound slots, finish and stroke type (straight, slight arc) depending on model.

Bombora Secrets
Tad Moore Barn Find
Mills One
Acushnet Bullseye (flanged)

game 'em all (well...except the Tad - it's too darn pretty)

Thank you for the info,

I really think that this head could be close to 370g (without pulling it to check),

Had a bit of fun with her on course two weeks ago,

Unlike any other Ping putter that I have here, the weight seems almost unnatural through the stroke, when staring down onto an Anser,

Talking about JW, can anyone decipher this Lob Wedge engraving, the club has been in my bag for a good while?

It is black dot, but has been flattened to red dot, the loft, lie and bounce suit the sand at my course,

I have been assured that this club was built for a Tour player as well. Again, any info really appreciated, cheers Steve.
