Amazing Transformation!!
« on: April 18, 2015, 10:17:43 AM »
A customer requested an extreme modification to his Scotty Cameron Select Newport 2 Mid.  The putter arrived weighing 386g and the customer requested a head weight of 500g+ and also wanted to add some fins to the back of the head to totally change the look of the club.  The final request was to change the shaft from a double bend to a centre shaft.

The first pictures show the location of the fins welded to the head.  Both fins are handmade from 2 small blocks of 303SS.  The previous hole for the shaft was plugged and then milled flat.  The fins were then completely welded on with all the welding work dressed out .  The new hosel was then welded to the top edge and the club was dressed ready to finish.

Finally the Kuro Kaminari finish was added with the customers preferred paint fill of blue, grey and white.

I hope you like it and would appreciate any thoughts/feedback.

Amazing work on this one, but I wonder why he didn't just order a custom putter and sell this one as is.

Tom--incredible work. This piece probably answers the question, and I apologize if this is basic, but are you able to take a PN putter and attach a flow neck? Assuming of course that the head configuration lends itself to this.

I saw this putter when the owner posted pictures on WRX and was blown away.

Seeing the stage pictures here is incredible!  Tom has always done awesome work but this one really is something with all the work that went into it.  The picture of the putter before the Kuro finish has been added looks like the "fins" were stock all the way.

Thank you for your kind comments.

Tom will be able to modify virtually any Plumbers necks to a flow neck. For any modification requests please contact Tom directly through the Slighter website using "Site services" and "Refinish Quote"

Great question LionGolfer.

Firstly the MOI part. I believe the modification might possibly increase the Moment of Inertia.

When the putter was sent in the head was face balanced with a double bend shaft so the MOI was pretty good, After the modification the spigot was added and the centre shafted club was still face balanced even without the fins.

The addition of the fins would greatly enhance the heel and toe weighting and therefore, I believe increase the MOI and decrease the dreaded twist factor. The huge weight of the head would also help combat twisting.

The Centre of Gravity will be deeper compared to the original putter, it will have moved backwards away from the face. The effect of this on launch/roll depends entirely on the type of golfer using the putter, their particular stroke and their ability.

Neither the MOI or CG were measured or tested so this is just an opinion.

Many thanks for your question. :)

Wow...I have seen/heard much about Tom's refinishing work and this reaffirms the quality.

Absolutely stunning attention to detail.  Well done!
