Damascus Insert
« on: January 17, 2015, 12:32:10 PM »
I've always been intrigued by steel and metals, by their characteristics and properties. No exception for damascus,  so extraordinarily fascinating and exotic with its amazing pattern and nice workability. For this reason I decided to begin the process of creating a damascus insert for my Bputters models. The choice fell into a fine double twist stainless damascus steel. I loved the pattern at first sight, hope you'll enjoy the journey.

Stay tuned :)

Can;t wait to see the grain flow options you have for Damascus Antonio and also if you have a finish other than black ox for Damascus.

Kurt,

As discussed via PM elsewhere, you should really consider a BPutter.... Antonio also has a lot of stuff in the works.  Will of course leave it to him to share in due course.. but in the meantime, really consider getting one from Antonio.

I started with a 303SS Heavy hammer model, using a double twist stainless damascus insert. I decided to polish the face while leaving the rest of the head on a satin finish.  I know it could seems an hazard, well probably it is, but I wanted to try something different. Now I'll have to etch the insert to let explode the damascus pattern.

Hope it'll come out nice :)

Sincerely

Antonio

After my first attempt, must say I am pretty satisfied. Polished face maybe doesn't let pattern to show up intensively, but it gives a nice and cool effect. My big concern here was to give the putter a good durability using 303SS and a stainless damascus insert.

Now, I'll send it out for testing ;)

Sincerely

Antonio

I think this grain flow works well for an insert.  Well done Antonio.. Testing?  Ahem... you have a tester in Singapore.  You know my specs ;-) LOL

Guess I need to add some spice on this thread :) My research continues and the will to experiment does not stop at all. Here are three carbon damascus bars ready to be tested on some Bputters.
Hope you'll take part to this journey ;)

Antonio

I've been working on a new model lately, but I did not forget the damascus bar I posted recently. While completing the insert for the hammer model, i decided to play a little bit with some moon markers and divot tools. Hope you like it

Absolutely  beautiful Antonio.  Fantastic grains and pattern which needs this high precision finish!  Well done!  Save one of each for me when we can start on our next project.

Don't know how I missed this. The putter face is lovely, Antonio!

Those accessories are cool, too.  8)

Nice work.

I've been working on damascus for a while, trying new things and accessories. I happened to use a carbon damascus on insert and i found it really rewarding. Etching process is quite complex anyway but it gives back a better contrast and a nicer pattern than the stainless tried before.

I am continuing to experiment on this side as I am sure both the look and the feel of this extraordinary material will give my putters a plus.

Sincerely

Antonio
