Any info on this Bobby Grace putter??
« on: December 30, 2014, 01:18:09 PM »
Hi everyone.  Happy holidays.  I recently picked up this Bobby Grace "tour" putter and was wondering if anyone has any information on this model, history, etc...  It's a beauty and has the same shape as a Bettinardi JAM or a Cameron Monterey, but surely predates them.  Any Grace experts out there??

Have you gotten any confirmation from Bobby that this is indeed one of his creations?  Bobby, in his early days, did more of a simple "T" stamp than a full "TOUR" in the cavity.
If you can reach him on FaceBook, he is fairly free with his knowledge and history on putters he has made.
Not sure why, and I apologize if I come across as skeptical, but I was a HUGE Grace fan and owned several handmade/garage made Graces over the years.  There is just something about this putter that does not scream "BOBBY GRACE", to me.
Please give Bobby a shot at correcting me or confirming what my gut is telling me.
Thanks,

I think this was made after he left MacGregor and went back on his own.  IIRC, he offered a line of putters that were custom tour offerings.  I've seen a putter like this before and really liked it.

The closest I could find is from a contest on another site.  Not the same putter,  but should give you an idea of when it was made.

I stand corrected.  Great find on that golfspy give away.
Need to do some digging in my pictures and see if the MacGregor Tour I had is anything like this one.  I sold it for a song a few years ago.

Thanks, everyone, for the input and dialog.  I may still ping Bobby via his website to see if he has any more information.  It's a sweet putter and real or not, it was clearly made by a craftsman.  The fine-grain face milling is really special.  Thanks again...

Thanks, I'll give it some thought.  If it's worth anything near what that Mygolfspy ad says it listed for, I'll be afraid to use it...  At least I put some puttertape on the sole...  It definitely feels like a hand-made.  Between the milling work and the mushrooming around the stamps, it shows all the signs

Bobby has long been known for putting a very high price tag on his creations, so enjoy the implied value.  The putter is gorgeous and I hope that it makes a ton of putts for you.

Just to close the loop on all this (if anyone was curious), I did get a hold of Bobby Grace and here's his reply on the putter:

Frank,

Be glad to give you the background.  This putter is awesome!!  You have found a great putter, forged from 1025 Carbon Steel and machined, hand ground and polished and hand stamped and gun Blued by a master gunsmith.  This is a handmade we only made for Tour Players😊!  Circa 2007.

Great find!!!

Been almost a year since this thread went out, but I thought I would use it to let folks know that I finally am parting with this beautiful putter.  It's been sitting in my office this whole time - has never seen grass - and so despite how much it pleases me, it's time to move on.  The putter is listed currently on eBay at:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Immaculate-Bobby-Grace-Tour-Putter-/111811748056?hash=item1a087fe0d8:g:CAcAAOSwhcJWNXyY

I'm happy to entertain reasonable offers there - or via PM here.  THANKS.
