2010 Club Byron Mixer
« on: July 18, 2009, 09:52:30 PM »
I am using this thread to gauge the interest in holding a Club Byron mixer next spring in Southern California.

A few things that we already know:
1.  This will be open to Club Members only.
2.  Female Club Byron members are welcome.
3.  Spouses, significant others, families are all welcome.
4.  Dogs are absolutely welcome.  ;)
5.  We will look for a golf resort that offers good golf, reasonable rates, and convenient to one of the SoCal airports.
6.  There will be a putting tournament/contest!  8)

Things we have to figure out:
1.  March, April, or May
2.  2-nights / 1-day or 3-nights / 2-days
3.  How many people will commit to this?  The more people that we have the better the deal we will get on lodging and golf
4.  Golf tournament or just social golf?
5.  Is there interest in a member "show and shine" (means bring your collection and show off a bit)?
6.  What would everyone like from Byron?
7.  What sort of off-the-course entertainment would everyone like?

I'm know that there are more considerations than these, but this seems like a good start.  I'd love to see us draw 100+ people, but I'll be happy if we have 20 or 30 people just hanging out having a good time.

Okay, I'm waiting...

I'd be definetely interested as I live in LA.

1) Doesn't matter at all
2) Depending on where it is, I would probably stay locally but I'd be down for the shorter of the two.
3)  I'd commit.. not sure about lodging but I'd commit for golf and hanging out
4) social golf for me
5) yes
6) whatever Byron wants to bring
7) I'm down for anything

Sounds like it would be a ton of fun.  Would love to see all the Byron gamers..  annoys me that I never see any on the course when I play with randos.

I'd be definitely interested as I live in Riverside CA, an hour away.

1) Doesn't matter at all
2) I would probably stay locally, more hang out time.
3)  I'd commit.. not sure about lodging but I'd commit for golf and hanging out
4) social golf for me

6) whatever Byron wants to bring
7) I'm down for anything

And if you fly into Ontario California or John Wayne Airport, I be more than happy to pick you up.

1.  Whenever!  I can use a sick day or two, if necessary.
2.  Either 1 day 2 night or 2 days 3 nights will work.
3.  I'm totally committed as long as the price isn't CRAZY high.  I do have a few friends that live in the L.A. area (Los Feliz and Silver Lake areas) if the price is out of my range.
4. I'm not a great golfer-- I'm playing my best golf ever, right now (Because it's the summer and I have time to play three times a week.  Teaching is a great job!) and my handicap has dropped to a 16.  I'd prefer to play social golf.  Then again, I've never played in a golf tournament... haha.
5.  I don't have a ton of putters, but I could bring them on the drive down.  :)
6.  I don't think I'll have much money to purchase anything large-- I'd be totally happy just getting to actually meet the man that makes the putters I love!
7.  I'm pretty low-key.  For entertainment, I'm more than happy just sitting and talking to people about golf, soccer, football, literature, life, etc.  I'm very much a people person but have never been too keen on a crazy night life.

Maybe we could take a group trip to Byron's shop if the group is small enough?

To clarify, I was wondering if we'd all be interested in a presentation/talk from Byron about putter design, craftsmanship, what goes into making a great putter.  Leave the gear to Steve and me.  Byron will have an array of putters available for sure...

Drive over the hill to Reno and we can make our way down from here.  We (me & themann) will probably drive down from here.  We did it in March and had a great time!

I'm in if it is during spring break. Would be a blast.

I think social golf/ scramble is more fun than tournament style IMO. I would be down for either though.

I would be down for a show and shine. I'll need a few more putters before then though LOL.

I think it would be cool if Byron were to give a brief talk, but nothing too lengthy. I think it would be more enjoyable if we were all just able to socialize and speak with him individually.

Off course entertainment is not as crucial to me as I would probably be going with the family, and spending time out and about when not at the social events.

Don't forget the open bar.  :thumb:

Recognizing that Spring Break may not be the same for everyone, here are some date possibilities:

March 18-21, 2010
March 25-28, 2010
April 8-11, 2010
May 6-9, 2010

All of these are based oncheck-in Thursday night, check-out Sunday.

If the indication is that a good number of participants are going be bringing along their families, we need to know this and take it into account in selecting the location and activities.  In other words, as TM GOLF GUY did, let us know if you will are bringing along the family.

2.  2-nights
3.  Count me in
4.  Golf tournament
5.  I only have three but I would bring them for sure.
6.  I would love to hear Byron give a talk, about how he got started and how he got to where he's at today.  What/who has influenced him, etc.
7.  I really don't care so much about entertainment, I am pretty flexible.

I am really looking forward to this.

can we do this, like, now?  i'm playing soooo much better than i ever have!  i decided to play from the blues today for the first time ever and ended up equaling my best score at that course-- an 83.  However, the course played about 600 yards farther!  I can honestly say that i feel like a much more accomplished golfer now.  haha.  granted, it's still a 12 over par but i'm happy with it!

if we play tournament golf, how exactly will the tournament work?  will it be the partner/pairs thing or a singles type tourney?  i've never played competitive golf-- i was a soccer player and football kicker in high school/college-- so this is all new to me.  :)

i realllllllyyy can't wait, though!

I am very pleased with the response we have gotten here for an event that is 8-9 months out.  I want to assure everyone that we will accomodate all who want to attend.  This fall, I will start a sign up list to get an initial idea of who wants to attend.  Then we'll get a SoCal travel professional involved to find a location, get us a great deal, and work with attendees to get their arrangements booked.

On a couple of other notes, we are contemplating charging a registration fee.  The fee is like a deposit to ensure that people are serious about attending.  The fee will come back to you in the form of some Byron swag and a hosted kickoff party.

There will also be a fee for the golf outing/tournament.  Participation is not mandatory, but encouraged.  ;)  The cost will cover golf, libations, and prizes.  For planning purposes, this amount will be due in advance (probably 30-days).

Stay tuned...  8)

I would be interested in coming. But the dates then the approval of SWMBO are the determining factor. B/c I am sure that I am not allowed to go to CA w/o her, I am only allowed to travel up to 2 states away without supervision :poke: . I would be in favor of March 18th to the 21st and then March 25th to the 28th.
