A couple quick pics of my new custom Klassic.  Flamed SS, and has a lot of great color, but doesn't show up in the pics well.  Better pics from Jay on the registry site;  DMC-2057.  Great putter, have made some great putts with it already.

This thread needed a boost.  Just got my first Klassic in the mail today.  Couldn't be happier with it.  Great feel at impact, great look at address - isn't that what we're looking for?  Oh yeah, throw in great help and responsiveness from Jay, and it's a winner.

Just curious, what is the difference between a klassic and a professional series klassic?

Re: Klassic Show Off Thread

I'm not the expert, but while David mostly makes custom one-off or small lot putters, from time to time he will do a larger 'series' of putters.  The "Professional Series" was one such example, as was the "Anvil Series", "M Series", and others I'm sure.  This applies to the Klassic, Softail, Tradition, Fleetwood, etc., etc.

I don't know know how much less "custom" each series is because I think David touches every putter out of the shop, but in general I think the "series" putters are not as desirable as the one-offs and small lots.  They may be outsourced, more offsite CNC work, no hand-stamping, etc., etc.

Just my two cents.  My first two Mills putters were Professional Series (a Softail and a Fleetwood) and I loved them. They are what got me hooked on Mills putters.

Experts, jump in and correct me!!

Yes, Good info  ;)

The Professional Series probably had more that David did do, stamping and welding and finishing on, than the newer series. My opinion of course, but I think that is pretty correct.

Still great Mills quality no matter what  ;D

Sorry, one last question :)  What is the shape difference between a klassic and a tradition flow neck?  Are they pretty close to the same?  I cant find a side by side pic.

Main differences are in the weight, topline, and how the hosel was welded to the putter.

Initially the flat-bumpered tradition (professional series) was the only one that had a sightline as the standard sighting option.  I believe the other styles needed special order if you wanted a sight line.  I believe the weight range for the Tradition was 355-360g, often times a bit heavier.

The Klassic was usually a similar look, but sight oval and weighed in around 345-350g.  For me, the best Klassics to find are the professional series SS Klassics milled in 2007 when David was trumpeting his parallel pocket design and having the hosel come straight of the slanted heel such that the hosel only bent to set the shaft offset and not acting as a slung-back hosel (where the tip of the hosel bends down into the head) - this hosel came straight into where the heel and topline met. - The Klassic with the PP design was the one he sent into GolfDigest and was awarded a Silver for his work, but the comments from the testers said they liked it better than the Scotty Camerons.  What's even more interesting (side note - I'm actually thead jacking my own post) is that if you try to go through the hot-list archives on the Golf Digest site, you can't find the putters from the 2007 hotlist edition.  Yeah, yeah, conspiracy theory, I know...

The 2007 professional series Klassic did have a busy sole, but David hand stamped the cavity on nearly all of those putters, used SS304 steel, and had a great milling on the face which along with the parallel pocket design gave the putter incredible feel.  The SS felt as good as the carbon, which is about as rare as you can find.  Normally the SS putters have quite a bit more 'click' to them vs. the carbon.

In subsequent series of this style, David went to a fully engraved head, and the look of T.P Mills engraved in the cavity with a small point milling bit just didn't appeal to me the way the hand stamping did.  The only TP Mills engraving in the cavity I liked was the anvil series - it was the MILLS in big, bold letters with serifs.
