I got it in the mail today. I love the putter tubes!! If you get a putter you absolutely need to buy one with it. I even had the mail man complementing me on the way it looked.

Hmm - I hope the mushy feeling grip doesn't have anything to do with desaille's "fondling"  :rotfl:  :pirate:

It might. There looked like a small rip at the bottom. I don't know it it happened in the tube some how or what...

rip at the bottom? bottom of putter grip?
Did it get caught on the screw or wood?

Funky you have the same thoughts that I first had on the CI putter.
I too have a 006 (355g) coldstar finish site dot with pingman grip
Everything wanted to go left, but after some quick adjustments, CI can just flat out roll the ball
Its very soft but thats part 3x oil can finish

We will have a delay on the circulation of this test putter.  The putter and tube are on its way to me for some repairs and a new grip.  We are switching to kangaroo tan...  8)

You will probably get it in about 10-14 days.  I won't get it from funkyfedora until Thursday or so.  Will get the tube repaired and grip changed over that weekend and then out to you...  :)

The CI is here in Reno.  The grip has been replaced with a tan kangaroo grip.  I am very impressed with this grip.  It has a great texture and feel.  The remaining testers are in for a treat.  The putter will be on its way Tuesday to Illinois...

Hey guys! I'm the new guy on the list...  I actually couldn't wait and bought a C.I. with a flow neck, but I think I need a plumber's neck version too.  Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting this putter!

I have no doubt. After taking "The Byron Morgan" experience just recently with the test putter, I have amazed at what fine craftsmanship and attention to detail is put into his putters. Being from the midwest, I never have seen one in person and I'll do my best to spread the BYRON word to friends and acquaintances alike. These things not only look great and feel great, but most importantly, perform great. I'm excited for this, dare I say, 1 of 1 DH Plumbers Neck CI and look forward to gaming it for a long time. Bye Bye Betti.

Sorry about the delay in this review... However, I have to say, Byron and the boys have a winner on their hands with this stick.
My 1st impression - the tube - very cool idea, but I'm a person who likes to fly under the radar so to speak. The fact that it's advertising a custom putter is inside doesn't sit well with me. If it's left at my door and someone sees it, they may be inclined to steal it. Not a big deal, but just my opinion. I prefer a standard, plain brown box but to each their own. I get the idea and understand why they sent the putters that way. I can't help but wonder if the cost of that tube goes into the cost of the putter itself??? Anyway, I digress.
Ok, my first impressions of the actually flat stick... just sick looking (In a good way). The finish is by far the coolest I've ever seen on a putter. Very clean/modern and eye appealing. Kudos to you Mr. Morgan. The club was basically my exact setup as far as length, loft, lie. I took it to the course and was awstruck at how well it felt to roll this baby. I did get some looks from the guys at my CC because I was so elated with how it rolled the ball. It's soft, yet puts a great roll on the ball. The T sight line in genius. I can basically line my ball up with the arrow that Titleist puts on it to the hole and boom, drop it in the cup. EASIEST PUTTER I'VE EVER LINED UP. I loved this putter so such from just practicing with it, I emailed David and told him I wanted it right then and there. My first full round a couple of days later solidified my true appreciation for this putter. I had 24 puts in 18 holes and rolled the ball truer than I have all summer long. My friends were amazed at the 8-10 foot automatic putts I was dropping.
Until this point, I had never putted with or had even seen a Byron in person.
Well, to make a long story short, I ended up the winning bidder of a DH Plumbers neck CI from ZMAN off of the bay and the bond has grown stronger. Although it's black oxide (I prefer the cool oil can finish), this thing will be in the bag for a long long time. Thanks for setting this cool test program up, if it hadn't been, I'd be putting with junk forever. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Great review, Mark!!

FYI - I believe the putter tubes are only being used in the testing program and for people who want to pay extra for them.  The putters shipped from Byron, Steve and Dave usually get the plain box treatment.

Mark, thanks for the thoughtful review.  We are thrilled that the putter made a positive impression on you.  Congrats on your pick up of the DH89 from Z-Man too.  :w00t:

My 1st impression - the tube - very cool idea, but I'm a person who likes to fly under the radar so to speak. The fact that it's advertising a custom putter is inside doesn't sit well with me. If it's left at my door and someone sees it, they may be inclined to steal it. Not a big deal, but just my opinion. I prefer a standard, plain brown box but to each their own. I get the idea and understand why they sent the putters that way. I can't help but wonder if the cost of that tube goes into the cost of the putter itself???

About the putter tubes, when I took over the program I had a few goals for it, including improving both the presentation of the test putter and the durability of the container.  By developing a reusable container, the real cost is lower than using the standard cardboard shipping box.  More over, the tubes provide greater protection for the putter during shipment.  As Drew stated, a number of Byron fans have purchased tubes for personal use and even to store putters in.  I am humbled and flattered by the positive acceptance and attention we have gotten from our putter tubes.  We understand the preference for low key as well.  The test panel program is how we promote Byron's craftsmanship, and we think that his putters are worthy of a little promotion while they are on their journeys...

BTW, in 2010 we are planning to have a Captain Morgan themed putter tube.  Argh!  8)  Maybe we'll call it a putter cannon.
