Col's 12g Scottsdale style

Thought you guys might be interested in the ongoing process with my putter that I am getting from James. He sent me some progress pictures a couple of days ago showing where they are up to with the process.

What I have asked for is one of his 12g heads, shaped like a Ping Scottsdale Anser, with a rolled top line (and generally all edges rolled and looking smooth), 330-335g headweight, some custom engraved lettering on the sole and a brass sightline / bullet in the heel. The finish will be his barrel black, and it will be gripped with a Gripmaster Stitchback grip, loft and lie to my specs also.

The photos below show the basic shape, although there is still some work needed on the rear bumpers to get them quite the right shape and flow for my eye. The hosel also needs to be fully welded out before it gets polished and sent to the engravers and finally finished in the barrel black, shafted and gripped. Hopefully it should be with me in 3-4 weeks.

I seem to have gotten quite lucky as James tells me that my order was the next to last before he committed to the Scratch deal and they wont be making any others outside of that arrangement for now. James has been very good to deal with and we have had lots of communication back and forwards so far. I'll keep you updated as I get any more photos from him.

Latest Photos from James prior to engraving. James tells me that the sightline is in the middle of the cavity (as is the CoG) and not towards the toe as it appears. The photos were taken with his camera phone as he has managed to break his SLR.
It's off to the engravers now and then finishing in Barrel Black.

I couldn't putt with that sight line- even though he claims its in the middle it looks off to me- I could care less about measurements bc if it doesn't suit my eye no chance I'd be using it.

Love the head shape

Haven't been on here for a while and realised I hadn't posted pictures of the finished in hand article.

Couldn't be more pleased with the putter, the sight line is right in the middle of the cavity, despite how it looked in the in process pictures. The finishing on this putter is miles ahead of anything I have ever owned before. I've played it all year and it really hasn't deteriorated much at all, as James had indicated it wouldn't. The finish is a barrel black and it seems to reAlly hold up well, despite being used a couple of times on fertilized greens.

The feel is great, not as soft as my deep milled Slighter Tacoma or any soft insert putters (Odyssey PT82), but very responsive and not at all clicky, similar to the original Scotty Gun blues. I ended up putter a back weight in the butt of the shaft after struggling with my stroke in the summer, and since then have putter really well with it.

I love the shape and the clean look. The heal bullet is brass, and the slight line is gold inlay - was supposed to be brass, but James ran out and only had gold when they came to finish it, so he used that and didn't charge me any more.

I have now put it away for the winter, don't want to ruin the putter or my confidence using it on bumpy winter greens here in the UK.

I've been doing some work this winter with Bruce and consequently my stance and set up have changed a bit, I now stand much further from the ball. Consequently I now need a putter with the shaft axis closer to the heel, so this is back with James to cut off the plumbers neck and weld on a short flow neck with a half shaft offset.

Putter will then be refinished in the same finish, which has proven really durable and still looks great.
Again full credit to James who has been nothing but brilliant to deal with and agreed to do the work to get it how I want it.
