Title: 1 Of 5 Only
Post by: Byron Morgan on November 24, 2012, 02:33:01 PM
Anybody want the first off of only five pieces?  Brushed blue oil finish.
This hosel using a .355 taper shaft will not be on the 100 pieces that will be made for Japan.

Is this one a weld neck cleaned up or one piece. I thought it was a DaKine at first, but the milling on the front and back of the face doesn't look like the standard tuna mill. Beautiful putter. Would look great in a lefty.

These are friction welded hosels then the whole putter is shaped by hand.

FITW, I spoke to Byron a short time ago and these heads weigh in at 365.  There's no problem taking weight off, but for those who prefer a heavier putter here you go!

In Nuevo they call it "Mine."

In Japan it is "The 8812."
In Nuevo they call it "Mine."

And it arrived at my door today! To say Kate's first words were "Dude! That is bad ass!" Is in itself a huge endorsement,,, she is a long time Culver City, Huntington Beach resident, so, that explains her rating scale,,,
I rolled about 2 dozen putts on my carpet and here is a short review, more later when I hit the course,,,,, IT IS BAD ASS!!

I am using Byron's DBCM 8802 Style, no modifications to my current swing/stroke,,,,, firm but a taste of softness, perfect combo.
I tried a straight back stroke, solid, great aim control
I tried a gated stroke, same solid feel and aim control
Both gave very good to great distance control on a 7 foot long carpet.
Can't wait to game it, have a feeling I may be getting a taste of the flu and will have to call in sick  ::)

Sorry T, all 5 are adorned with the same sightlines as on this one. :(

I usually play a single site dot or naked,,,, the line is the same size as a golf ball, that along with the sight line makes it ssooooooo easy to aim it is almost criminal,,, I tried my others after putting with this and no contest, this is by far the easiest way to aim and ensure constant sweet spot contact.

Congrats to the 5 lucky individuals who picked up these beauties!  I'm definitely jealous.  I've been thinking about pulling the trigger on one of these and today I finally decided I was going to do it (after a few sessions putting with various brands that make this style head).  Went to take one last look at the pictures and see that they were all taken........so, I'm off to go bang my head against the wall!   :'(

I thought 6-4 was pretty short, until I realized that was probably just to the end of today!

No chance now I just got a look at the putter on Byron's other post!  Great looking putter Scotty.  The man on the other side on the bay must be getting a little jealous.

Great looking circle GS stamp on the sole.  Enjoy it.

Someday when I am rich like the rest of you I will keep every putter I buy.  Unfortunately I have had to let go of quite a few Beautiful putters to buy a new toy.... :( And I certainly have never made a dime from selling them.  Just to clarify ;)

Oh yeah, Thanks Dan and T, I owe the GS idea all to Dave!

     T,

How are those odds going to change with 2 feet of snow on the ground.

     Scotty,

She's a California gurl, used to the beach.  Not from the mountains where she is used to the snow.  You might want to wait til that snow melts before you take her out for a test drive.  Hopefully you got out before it started.

Olaf said they got 28 inches in Ct.

Looked pretty nice at Pebble Beach today!  60 here outside Sacramento, but I think the chill factor was down around 55!

1 of 5 -  T.J.
2 of 5 - jvalente
3 of 5 - oneaugusta
4 of 5 - gdy63
5 of 5 - Haymaker

That should solve the mystery.....  8)

Nope.  No one has number 3.  It was going to Ryan but now the coyote has it.

My Pros and Con....

Feels like butter, sets up beautifully, unbelievable craftmanship of course by Bryon.  I have never felt a GSS putter but now know why you guys like them so much!

Only con for me is the head is quite a bit longer from heel to toe than I am used to but that would be it.

Not that anyone cares of my feedback but hey, I am only a human being with an addiction! LOL  ;D ;D ;D

I guess we know what your next one will be - Da Kine, same shape, same neck, same offset, shorter heel to toe, maybe copper plated carbon steel...  :-*

T,

I think your definition of flipping is different than mine?

Mine is Flipping is buying something just to turn around and sell it for a profit, that I have NEVER done.

And now that I know about the gambling if it happens I will assure you I will wait long enough so you don't make any green!   :P

Scotty, I don't wanna have to appeal to your better nature on this one but, you got me all wrong, I'm the one backing you NOT to sell before the month is out, heck I got a lot of custom putter riding on this one

As for flipping, you're right, we have different definitions and like you, of all the putters I've brought & sold only one ever turn a dime, still $75 up on one putter doesn't seem to offset the $4,850 down on the rest off them.

Oh yeah, I kept records :'(

Being new to any forum, especially one where the wits are quick and the wallets deep.
I'm getting a kick out of the personalities and the symbiosis that many of us share with
respect to our *putter Fetish* issues..

"another Putter dad, mom's gonna kill you" I swear to God I've heard that in my house.
It got so bad I was tipping the postman to text me when more than 2 boxes showed
up on any given day.  I feel like I'm attending a meeting, you know the ones
where you raise your hand and say something like, I'm so and so and I am seriously
f---d up. Funny, I'm starting to realize in real $$ and cents some drug and other related
addictions are cheaper.
Not something to joke about but there are similarities, like  I can't seem to stop.  :-[
Difference is, I don't want to.

OK, I said 7 Morgans, if the real
number got out the feds would be here asking where the cash was coming from.

It's so.... comforting though,  ;D  and I feel a kinship with those who know the issues
and understand me,  I'm laughing out loud. Anonymity here is non-existent.
Scotty that 4 of 5 is going to be buried with me.  I'm working on developing an arc stroke just
so it will fit me better, better check with bargolf, first though.
Seriously this has, is,  becoming, too much fun....

You're in good company Champ.

There is a topic on here somewhere that lists some suggestions on what you can do to get away with constant putter deliveries - i.e. ship to the office, have Byron write, "You've Won!", on the box etc.  tipping the postman to contact you upon your putter's arrival needs to be added to that list.

You've amassed quite a nice collection of Byrons in the last few weeks. Can't wait to put some of them in my bag.  ;)

Welcome,  sounds like you've been there, done that!  One thing that I've found is that if you come home with 16 boxes of cereal when the local grocery store has a great sale, it tends to take some of the attention away from the putter purchases. Still gets you committed to the same home though!  lol   Enjoy the process.

Met up with the Champ this morning before work and got a look at # 4 of 5.  Wow!  What a beauty.  It had such an incredibly smooth feel when I actually put a good stroke on the ball.  I think the Champ could tell I was falling in love, so rather than cause a scene at the PGA Superstore he generously allowed me to take her home.

The guy parked in the car next to me had the nerve to look at me like I was crazy.  Doesn't everyone make sure their putters are safely secured before driving away?

TJ congrats on keeping the same putter in the bag for 4 years. Hope to have the same story in 3 years with my current putter.

I have 1 person that I will lend out to now bc he wants to try or I want him to try it. That is it, no one else, works fine bc no one asks to borrow. Most of the peoplee that I play it with don't collect and are not really aware of anything beyond a OTR cameron for higher cost. Which I was one of them too when I was younger.

Outstanding!!!

Have to love it when we find a putter that fits our stroke and eye and performs so well it remains in the bag.  Not great for the putter Ho is all of us, though.  LOL

My Epic Day has now seen 3 + seasons in the bag and still remains.  The confidence I have with it and the performance continues to remain high.  Byron makes terrific putters but if one is matched well with our strokes and the specs are right then magic happens!
