8802 black chrome help
« on: September 18, 2017, 02:32:40 PM »
Hey everyone.

I stumbled on a 8802 in black chrome, non fluted shaft with black and silver piping grip. Has a headspeed but it's the gold and black sticker.

Everything is original on it, but I'm not sure how old this is. Are any of the things I mentioned above helpful for identifying? I can try to get pics up soon, attaching has been difficult.

Could you post the shaftband?  Most black chromes were the silver and black.  The gold/black is much more modern and usually had leather that didn't have the silver piping.

I'm interested to see what you have.

Here's the shaft band, and the grip. It has. The blue and red flag cap at the end of the grip

More interesting.  I've never seen a black head with the flags endcap.  Does the grip "boat" in at the top?  The leather is correct.  But I can't tell from the side profile.

There were 8802s made with the flag endcap, silver shaft band, and piped leather.  I've just never seen a black head.

Could you add a view of the grip head on so the profile can be seen?   Also a shot of the head from the toe to see the undercut of the topline.  And, if you can, place a nickel on the face for reference.

Sorry to ask for so much information, but there were many variations of the 8802 and each detail can be significant.

No, don't apologize, I want to know about it so I'm more than happy to get what you need to help me out!

These are what I had on me, I'll try to get the nickel picture after work.

I don't believe the grip boats out it's not the larger paddle style

Let me know if you need any additional pics besides what I posted, thanks again!

Your 8802 was manufactured in 1969/1970.

Nice putter! 👍

On second thought, make that 1970/1971

Oh, that's right! The "edit option" is time restrictive. Geez again...

Thanks blade! What properties of the putter indicate that's the age? Curious for when I try to hunt for more locally

Hi Travis,

Simple, the "black chrome" version was only available for two years.

Cheers,
