I have the same model Clay Long and you are correct in stating how easy it is to line up.
I can't tell you how many of my friends have asked ... "What kind of insert does the putter have"?
I just smile and tell them that it is a secrete.

Not all slant necks.
Most of Clay Long models 2002 to 2008 are mid length slant necks.
Some models have a short slant almost like a flow neck.
2009 303 stainless models have conventional and long neck plumbers necks.
New Nicklaus stainless steel lookslike a flow neck.

Pics B201.5 Clay Long Personal Edition.

I picked up one of these guys last year. Great putter that puts a really nice roll on the ball. I was quite surprised and impressed with it.

I think they not only feel good but are very pleasing to the eye at set up.
