New Bombora
« on: June 21, 2016, 03:20:22 PM »
Byron guys - wasn't there some talk several months ago about a new Bombora this summer?  I vaguely recall this as well as the comment "bigger and badder than ever...".  Any status update??  My avatar needs another "family" member....

Thanks!!

P.S., if there are any 611 heads lying around, let me know!!

New Bombora is still a ways away... but has been discussed.  No 611's left.  BUT, I think I got something that would scratch your itch.  Very special.  PM coming

We're getting into 2017 now (hard to believe the Super Bowl has already come and gone - Go Pats!!), so thought this thread should get a bump.

What is on everyone's wishlist for the new Bombora?  Preferred heel shape?  Raised toe?  Wider flange for more customization/shaping options?  Neck preferences?  Face milling?

Any chance there will be a test program put together for this release?

Cheers all,
Tyler

Details!?!? Teasers?!?!

Only three pieces of info I have are:

1.  It's not going to be called "Bombora"
2.  It's a little different than the Bombora, prompting the new name.
3.  There will be one with my name on it as soon as they come in.  8)

Not sure what the pricing of the Bombora was, so I'd rather not say.

Plus it would be disrespectful to talk about the pricing of a product that hasn't been released yet... I wouldn't want that done if it was my product, anyway (just one man's opinion).

Rockpile version (or something with a pocket)????

On the original Bomboras and DaKines, the rockpile cutouts were hand-milled.  If there is no stock rockpile or pocketed version, I'm sure it can be done upon request.

     Tyler,

You could probably get pretty close to all the things that you're asking for with a Dakine.

Are there still Dakine heads available?

Haha!

You'd be surprised at how little information I actually do have.

Honestly, the only thing I know is that "it's a little different than the Bombora."

Personally, I'm hoping that it will be something that can have a high toe, and a thicker flange than the Bombora did (thinking along the lines of a Circa 62 No. 1 look).  That said, those are just my hopes and they are based on nothing more than a day dream.

What I do know is that it will be a head shape that I don't currently own, and the finished result product will surely be camera worthy.  ;)

Saw a mockup drawing of the new head on Saturday and was surprised... but pleasantly so.

This is definitely not just a Bombora refresh, as there are a few pretty big differences.

I think this head is going to make a lot of people very happy.  Much like the old Bombora and DaKine, the blanks will be shaped by Byron as right or left handed, and will have a weld neck, so there will be plenty of options for everyone.

No set time frame yet, but it shouldn't be long.

Cheers,

Mike

I just recently acquired an interest in custom putters and am currently awaiting delivery of one from Kari Lajosi.

I must say that I have also gained an appreciation of Byron Morgan in particular the old Bombora. I find the design and finish choices outstanding and would easily see having one of these as well.

It sounds like the new Bombora will be even better - so hopefully I will have a chance to get my hands on one before the golf season starts in Canada. I know now why it is difficult to own just one custom putter, when you see what craftsmen like Byron can do with a piece of steel.
