Title: 1st ever SRC wedge with loads of hand work...............................
Post by: src on July 19, 2017, 05:00:15 AM
Massively inspired by a Wedge I used during the late 80's early 90's, the one and only Ram Tom Watson hand ground Beryllium Copper.

The Ram wedges had a lovely sort of rounded shape on a neat little head, personally I find a lot of the modern wedges a bit triangular in shape with a pointy toe.

Loads of hand work involved and it took bloody ages so I don't think I will be doing many of them, that said I have sort of got the bug. The finish is a dark copper oil can but the peening on the back is pink/gold/green. This one has sold.

1st picture is the raw Japanese forging with the 1st stamps

Love to know what you think.

Wicked finish which we also tested on some of our putters.

Saw your Intagram posts on this one Scott - lovely piece of work. Almost too good to put in the bag and play - how do you think the finish will last?

Would you do sets of them with out all the hand peening? Save on some effort?

Got a few ideas up my sleeves which I cant wait to try but most of them involve a load of hand work. The wedges come to me 25g over weight which allows me to shape the heads change the profile of the toe etc.

It will also allow me to grind multiple amounts of sole relief/bounce to suit literally any player.

The juicy bit is that I can arse about with finishing, stamping, paintfill etc. Pretty sure there will be a few which are way outside the box, might even go for some crazy engraving or even a bit of mixed metal action.

Problem is that making wedges, according to Emma and Corrina is not my job !! I am just in the workshop playing with my toys. If they weren't so damn good at what they do there would be a good old fashioned sacking coming on but they are awesome so I will have to continue to sneak into the workshop and play with my toys.

Nice.  Gonna go head to head with JP and edel custom.

Can you share where your blanks are from?

Unfortunately I cant share the source because it is a well established manufacturer who has done me a big favour. I can say that the heads are raw carbon forgings, unfinished and definitely not cast !!
