Where would you live?
« on: February 24, 2018, 11:24:36 AM »
Due to some life events I am thinking about moving and I realized I’ve never really thought about living somewhere purely because I wanted to live there. It’s always been because of family (one time a girl, who later became family, but I digress), a certain school, a job, etc. Where would you guys live just because you think it would be a great place to live. All I’ve got so far for myself is warm.  8)  ;D

I would like a modest house in close proximity to Cyprus Point (I know - but I will sneak in at twilight), Royal County Down and Merion. Thanks!!  ;)

I've tried Florida - too many bugs and too much humidity.  Memories of growing up in Ohio are good, but you still have to deal with winter months covered in snow.  Northern California was fantastic, but hyper expensive, and dealing with the political nuts pushed me away.

Despite the summer heat, I really enjoyed living in Phoenix.  Lots of great golf courses, no shortage of weather, spring training baseball, good variety of people, college and pro sports...  When it gets too hot, drive an hour out of town and you're in the mountains, where you can ski in the winter.  Vegas isn't far, either.

This is a tough one.  Obviously, I think the biggest key if we are just talking about where you'd want to go for yourself, is/are your hobby or hobbies.  If golf is the #1 priority here, I don't think you could go wrong with:

-North Carolina Mountains (Asheville and surrounding, Highlands/Cashiers, Boone area)

-Pinehurst

-St. Simons Island

-Jupiter, FL

-Orlando, FL

-With warm being key for you, I don't think these would work, but obviously there is a ton of great golf in the Columbus, OH and Long Island areas.

-Lots of other good places as well

Warm - for me that equals the panhandle of Florida.  I really like Destin and Ft. Walton Beach.

The Willamette Valley of Oregon is my home now, and it is a great place to live.

Well after much consideration, I think I would enjoy having two places.  One for the winter (North/South Carolina area) and the Summer home in the DelMarVa area.

Well gents, it's looking like it might end up being the SC coast.

I've always loved the coasts around Charleston, SC. Isle of Palms to Kiahwah. Pat Conroy (R.I.P.) country.

Enjoy your life there!

Born and raised in North-East Ohio.

Lived in Columbus, OH for 4y...loved that.

Lived 1/2-time in Atlanta, GA for 5y...really loved that.

If it weren't for my boys living in Cleveland, I'd live in Atlanta right now.

If my financial portfolio could support it I would consider moving to Carlsbad, CA and have a house on the beach.  Great weather, great courses, and the ocean.  Maybe not seaside but Fort Collins, CO isn't too bad a place to live ..... except I am getting tired of Winter.

Seriously, Geo. I’d buy that and live in it as-is.

I interviewed for a position in SoCal last year and we look at some stuff in the area. Taxes seemed brutal.

That place is awesome. Back in the pre kid days that would be a dream.

The weather there is absolutely what I would deem as near perfection.  The older I get the more I dislike cold and snow.

 :)

A year ago my wife asked where I would want to move to when we retire.

My response, we have to move?

Vacaville, Ca.  Half way between SF and Sacramento.  2 hours to the mountains for skiing, snowboarding.

Plenty of nice courses, great weather.

1 hour to A' s or Giants games (no traffic)

1/2 hour to Napa, 45 min to Sonoma for great food and wine tasting.

And of course our friends are here.

Dan

Could change if kids and at some point in time the grandkids decide to move elsewhere
