Macro shots, show off your Byron's
« on: January 19, 2013, 11:20:41 PM »
While I was taking pictures of my putters to put in the lefty thread, I thought I'd go for some close ups of milling and stamping. I'd love to be a better photographer, but I won't be quitting my day job  ;). I know some of you have some mad photo skills, so let's see them. If you don't have any close up pics, just get your camera out, set it to macro (the flower icon), and shoot away. What else are you gonna do in January if you don't live in some place warm  :P.

Got a super macro camera and took these of my 006. In actuality, the milling isn't that deep!

Here are some of my putters-- 2010 Mixer Bombora, Captain Morgan 006, TCB DH89 Mini, Mini Mystic, and my Da Kine Mini (2011 Mixer).

I used my Nikon d40 with Lensbaby Composer Pro with macro kit lens attachments.  I probably should have used my tripod but I'm too lazy to get it out... Sorry for the fuzziness from hand/lens shake.

Here are some other photos.  I think I may have to invest in a real camera soon.  The quality of the macro photos on these is just so so.  First is a bombora from the mixer BO finish, next is a 711 with black PVD finish, DH11 with black PVD finish, a Da Kine from another mixer SS blue oil, a mindless GS blue oil finish, and the neck of a DH89 Long Board GS blue oil finish.

Nah... I've had the d40 since 2006 or so.  It's ANCIENT by modern dSLR standards.  Haha.  Lots of fun to be had with the lensbaby lenses but they're not even remotely close to professional quality macro lenses.

For those of you using the macro feature with a point and shoot camera, try shooting through a magnifying glass for some REAL close-ups!

Now that I look at your pics, I'd consider mine "close-ups" rather than macro shots.  Maybe it's the lighting or something.. my camera wasn't focusing very good close up.

Like Yoshi, I've got an older Nikon d50, but it still does okay. The shots of the handmades and "pro" mini shots were actually taken from about 6-7 feet away.

Send me your Damascus sticks... I'll only take photos of them. They won't touch any greens near my house-- greens near Ryan's place, though... Haha.

All of my shots were taken from about 2" or 3" from the putter head. You can take awesome full-frame macros of still life but don't try that with bugs or anything living.  Way too hard to keep things in focus!

Ryan, your photos came out pretty damn good!  A lot of cool angles, too!  The one of the barrel of the plumber neck in focus is SWEET.
